Frequently Asked Questions

1) Why start this new church?

The Fountain United Methodist Church believes that God has called us to start this new church for the purpose of reaching so many people who are not connected to a church or a relationship with Christ. We are located in the fastest area of growth in the state of Georgia. Over 80% of the people in this densely populated area are not connected to a local church. We have a burden for being a church that stands in that gap to connect so many unchurched, de-churched, and even people who are looking for a church to experience God through The Fountain. Ultimately, The Fountain UMC started because of a calling from God and a deep passion for people in this area.

2) What should I wear to worship?

We believe that the most important thing about coming to worship is your heart, but we also recognize that you want to fit in with your surroundings. The atmosphere of The Fountain is casual and relaxed, so you can come just as you are. You will see a variety of dress from shorts and jeans and t-shirts, to a more dressy casual. Most men dress comfortably with jeans or khakis and a polo or a button up shirt. Most women wear jeans, skirts, dresses, or pants and tops. Most importantly, we want to see YOU, not what you are wearing. It is the kind of place where you will be welcomed no matter what you wear.

3) What is the ministry approach of The Fountain?

We are doing church planting differently for a reason. We do not believe in the “build it and they will come” approach. Our vision is exactly the opposite. We believe in cultivating meaningful relationships and becoming a vital part of the community as a general way of doing ministry. In other words, each person is more than a number, but instead is a person whom Jesus loves. It takes time to cultivate those relationships and to be a meaningful asset to the community. We are not here to do ministry to the community, but to do ministry with and as a part of the community. We want to make a difference by making new and stronger disciples of Jesus Christ by investing in building community and relationships. The Fountain is striving to be a church where people can belong for the sake of being transformed by Jesus.

4) Did The Fountain start out of an existing church or from a partnership with another church?

The Fountain is a ministry of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and operates under the auspices of the division of New Church Development. The North Georgia Conference is committed to planting new churches all over Georgia and The Fountain is a part of this strategic plan.

The Fountain UMC is deeply connected, but did not start from any existing church. It was founded out of a “Parachute Drop” model, where Andy and Mandy Lett moved into the area like missionaries to pursue God’s BIG vision. We started with no name, no structures, no people, and some money given by New Church Development. God had given the Lett’s and the North Georgia Conference the vision to reach many new people near the south end of Forsyth County. The result of The Fountain is a testimony of deep prayer, sacrificial love, lots of hard work, years of planning, and of God putting together many connections to make God’s vision a reality.
